About Me
Tjede Hümmling · Founder of Beppo & Gigi

Until my late twenties, there was one driving force in my life above all else: Gigi. I was absolutely convinced that courage, humor, a little affectionate cheekiness and a healthy dose of megalomania were enough to open any door. This outlook on life brought me countless formative experiences, and it was precisely these experiences that laid the foundation for what defines my work today: the combination of Beppo & Gigi.
One of my most intense learning experiences came from an assignment to create a large back tattoo for the TNT series 4 Blocks. At the time, I had briefly studied art in Hamburg, so when the question came up during filming, it landed on my doorstep. Could I do it? “Of course!” was my answer. I wasn't about to let that opportunity slip away. I designed the motif, but on the day of filming, things didn't quite go according to plan: the right materials were simply missing on set. The stencil refused to cooperate and left no imprint whatsoever on the skin. With the temperature hitting a merciless 30°C and a tight schedule to stick to, we found ourselves in quite a predicament. So I had to draw the entire artwork, which covered the actor's whole upper back, completely freehand. During the five-hour session, I was sweating bullets. Fortunately, the nerve-racking experience had a happy ending: everyone was thrilled with the result, which can now be seen on Netflix, and I had learned a valuable lesson: A good plan is worth its weight in gold. But the ability to throw it out and adapt with flexibility and nerves of steel when it really counts is what determines whether a project flies or falls.
Not long after, another important lesson followed. A production company in Hamburg had shown interest in an original series idea of mine, and I enthusiastically pitched the project. Armed with a rather, shall we say, ambitious wish list for its creative execution. The wish list was rejected, and so was the series, by the way. Today, I can laugh about it. What I lacked back then wasn't enthusiasm or the willingness to throw myself into a project at 1,000%, but an understanding of processes, budgets and the realities of the industry.
Following these and other important experiences, I began to immerse myself in the structures, processes and challenges of productions and events. I wanted to understand not only how to develop ideas, but also how to bring them to life with foresight, care and a good sense of what is realistically achievable. Because whether we're talking about ideas, stories, fictional worlds or events, every idea, no matter how ambitious, needs a form, a structure and a direction. Otherwise, even the most beautiful idea remains nothing more than a fleeting fantasy. And so I developed my other side: Beppo. He is the logical thinker, equipped with the tools to turn visions into reality.
To me, Beppo & Gigi are not opposites that require a compromise. They complement each other perfectly. Gigi dares to think big and boldly take the first step. Beppo loves exploring the many possibilities and giving an idea a solid foundation. Both are curious about the world, and both need each other to grow.
Today, this combination shapes my daily work in the events industry just as much as the creation of fictional worlds in the studio. The courage to dream big has remained. What I've gained along the way is a passion for everything it takes to turn those ideas into reality.
